Amalfi
Types of transfer › Individual transferIn the 4th century AD the city was founded by Roman sailors. In the 9th Century it was one of the powerful maritime republics and in the 11th Century it reached the height of its heyday in the trade with the whole world at that time. Amalfi had its own currency and its own naval code, the "Tavole Amalfitane", which for centuries dominated the international maritime law. Today the crest of the once famous city adorns the flag of the Campania region. One of the most important buildings in Amalfi is the magnificent Cathedral of Sant'Andrea (Holy Andrew), to which one rises on a majestic staircase. The original church was probably built in the 9th Century and renewed in the 13th Century in Arab-Norman style; in the crypt are kept the relics of Saint Andrew. Next to the cathedral is the little "Chiostro del Paradiso” (Cloister of Paradise), where a historical museum is housed, well worth the visit. Also worth seeing is the Paper Museum in the city center with its exposition of the original tools of this once most famous craft in Amalfi. A walk through the "Valle dei Mulini” (Valley of the Mills) is one of the naturalistic highlights in the area of Amalfi.
